Why do I need a consultation?
During the consultation, our IPL technician, Brooklyn, will assess your skin type and hair type in order to confirm that you are a candidate for IPL hair removal. If your hair color and skin color are too similar, there can be complications with IPL, as the light energy looks for pigment to target the hair follicle. If the pigment of the hair is too similar to the pigment in the skin, this puts you at a higher risk of ineffective treatment. Brooklyn will also administer a test patch, to ensure that your skin is not reactive or sensitive to the effects of the IPL. This test-patch must be done at least 24 hours prior to your first treatment. During the consultation, Brooklyn will discuss the different treatment areas that we offer, as well as the pricing options for bundling treatments into packages of 3 or 6.
What is the difference between Laser and IPL Hair Removal?
The main difference between the two is the type of light used. Lasers will use a single beam of concentrated light to target the area. An IPL (intense-pulsed light) uses a broadband spectrum of white light, which are controlled using filters. Both technologies are FDA-approved for permanent hair removal. An IPL is slightly less painful than a Laser, but will require more treatments. The prices of the sessions have been created to reflect this, so that your investment will be about the same as a package of Laser hair removal.
What kind of investment is Permanent Hair Removal?
Each year, clients may spend up to $780+ on Brazilian Waxing or Sugaring. The cost of a package of six Brazilian IPL sessions is only $690, and will significantly reduce hair growth along the first 4-6 months. In your consultation, Brooklyn can go through any questions on our pricing to ensure you are making the best investment for your desired outcome.
Why do I need so many treatments?
The hairs on our bodies are in staggered growth cycles through a 4 week period. IPL/Laser is only effective when the individual hair follicle is young and still attached to the blood supply. This is why we must do multiple treatments, so that we can continuously destroy hair follicles while they are in that specific growth phase. This is what causes your hair growth to thin out as you move through your sessions of treatment. This is also why it is important to have sessions consistently in a 4-6 month window, to ensure your progress is not effected.
Will the hair ever come back?
Hair follicle growth is dictated by your hormones. Hair follicles may begin to regenerate when you go through hormonal changes, such as pregnancy, menopause, or hormonal disorders. There is a possibility for hair follicles to regenerate, and some future touch up appointments may be needed. Skin type and hair type play a major role in determining the number of treatments required. During your consultation, after Brooklyn checks your hair and skin type, she can provide an estimate for what kind of timeline you may expect.
How To Prepare For Your IPL Sessions:
-
Avoid plucking, waxing, sugaring or threading 6 weeks prior to your IPL session. There needs to be a hair in the shaft for the IPL to target.
-
Please shave prior to your session; any remaining hair can burn up and cause blisters. Shaving is the only permitted way to remove hair prior to your IPL session.
-
Clients taking Accutane (or any photosensitizing medication) should wait 12 months from the last dose before receiving IPL. Photosensitizing effects can increase your risk of burning.
-
Please ensure you do not have an active tan leading up to, and during, your IPL treatments. Since the IPL targets pigment, this may cause burns. Avoid the use of sunbeds during your sessions for the same reason.
-
We cannot treat overtop of tattoos, pigmented lesions, or permanent make-up.
-
Consultations are required 24-48 hours prior to treatment. They are complimentary.
-
On average, clients require anywhere from 5-12 sessions. This will differ for each individual client.
-
When planning a series of IPL treatments, please be prepared to avoid sun exposure on the targeted area. For this reason, some treatment areas are best done during the winter.
